Dental implants are normally the best tooth replacement option for adults. Rather than being anchored on adjacent teeth or resting on the gum line – like bridges and dentures – implants are bonded to the underlying bone tissue to provide a long-lasting tooth replacement.

But there are different types of dental implants that your dentist may recommend depending on your unique circumstances:

5 Different Types of Dental Implants

One-stage implants

The dentist places the implant in a new, healing or healed extraction site such that it is visible above the gum immediately. This eliminates the need for a second surgical process to expose the implant. The implant requires several weeks or months to heal before it can support the dental restoration.

Two-stage implants

The dentist places the implant in a new, healing, or healed extraction site and covers it with a layer of gum tissue so it’s not visible. When the gum tissue has healed – after several weeks or months – a second surgical procedure is necessary to uncover the implant and attach some components that will rise above the gum tissue, and on which the tooth restoration can be attached.

Same-day implants

This technique allows you to enjoy your new teeth immediately, without waiting for weeks or months for the implant to heal. The process requires meticulous planning, and is only recommended for lower jaw teeth replacement.

The dentist places multiple implants at the same time, and then installs a full set (arch) of temporary or permanent teeth. If temporary restorations are used, they will need to be replaced with permanent bridgework after your gums have healed sufficiently.

Immediate implants

This technique is similar to same-day implants in that the implant is placed immediately after tooth extraction, but the crown/bridgework is not installed until the gums have healed. Depending on the soft and hard tissue conditions, the implant surgery technique used may be one- or two-stage.

Immediate implant with early loading

With this technique, an implant is placed into a new, healing, or healed site in a one-stage procedure, and the new replacement tooth fitted right after. The tooth replacement is usually prevented from making direct contact with the opposing teeth for about three months, after which it is fully restored.

Since this restoration is not functional, it is mostly used in areas of the mouth where aesthetics is a major concern.

From crowded teeth to beautiful, straight teeth with Invisalign!

invisalign treatment

Invisalign are custom-made series of aligners for orthodontic patients. These aligner trays are made of smooth, comfortable and virtually invisible plastic that you wear over your teeth. Wearing the aligners will gradually and gently shift your teeth into place, based on the exact movements your dentist or orthodontist plans out for you. A new set of aligners are worn approximately every two weeks, until your treatment is complete. One of the main advantage of Invisalign is that are not noticeable by people, however, they have to be worn at least 22 hours a day. In complex situations, your orthodontist can combine Invisalign and conventional braces to achieve your dream smile.

Invisalign

Orthodontics DiscountHave you been dreaming of getting a straighter smile but don’t want to go through conventional orthodontic treatment with metal wires? Invisalign might be exactly what you need.

The Invisalign system uses an innovative approach to straighten your teeth using a series of virtually invisible, custom-made removable aligners to gradually move your teeth to the right position, instead of the fixed metal wires used with traditional braces.

If you feel that your smile is not as good as it can be because of:

  • Overcrowded teeth
  • An overbite, underbite, or crossbite
  • Widely spaced teeth

Invisalign treatment effectively straightens your teeth predictably as you will be able to see the final result even before you start wearing the clear aligners.

Of all the modern tooth replacement options available at Dreamland Dental in Bellflower, dental implants are by far the best. Implants not only give you a prosthetic tooth that is nearly as strong and stable as your natural tooth, but also preserve the underlying bone tissue that naturally deteriorates when you lose a tooth, causing your face to deform. And with the ability to match the color of the crown to that of your existing teeth, the replacement tooth is virtually unnoticeable when you smile.

1. Replace one missing tooth

A single implant can be placed to replace the root of one missing tooth, and a crown attached to it to simulate your actual tooth. This is a permanent treatment that can last for years with proper oral hygiene. Although implants do not stain or decay, post-care is just as important as for your natural teeth.

2. Replace multiple missing teeth

When used to replace multiple teeth, you don’t necessarily need one implant for every site. Depending on the size of the gap, the dentist may place two or more implants at intervals to act as supports to anchor the fixed bridgework. For instance, when you have two missing teeth, you can have one implant and a bridge supported by the crown, so the adjacent natural teeth won’t need to be prepared for bridgework.

3. Replace all your teeth permanently

With as few as 4-6 implants, you can install an entire arch of full dentures with 10 to 12 teeth, in the upper or lower jaw. The dentures can either be fixed or removable.

Distance

If you need to schedule appointments frequently, or even infrequently but over a longer period of time, distance should definitely be a consideration. Porcelain veneers may be recommended when teeth are/have discolored due to:

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Excessive fluoride
  • Tetracycline stain
  • Root canal treated
  • Chipped/Broken
  • Uneven
  • Worn down
  • Gap

dental cleaning

Porcelain veneers refer to light layers of tooth-colored dental restorative material that are custom-made to fit over the outer surface of worn down, stained, chipped, uneven, misaligned, or abnormally spaced teeth to provide an attractive, natural-looking smile. Dental veneers are bonded to the front of your teeth to provide a basis for the alteration of their shape, size, color, or length.

Dental veneers are typically created using porcelain or resin composite components. The former is usually the material of choice because it offers superior stain resistance compared to resin composite, plus it shares the light-reflecting qualities of regular teeth, giving you a more natural look.

For some people, a gap between their front teeth is an attractive feature that makes their smile stand out in a good way. In fact, there are quite a few celebrities who rock their front-teeth gaps, including Uzo Aduba, Vanessa Paradis, and Anna Paquin. But if spaces between your teeth make you uncomfortable and self-conscious, then you may consider Invisalign for Gapped Teeth treatment in Bellflower to solve the problem.

Causes of Gapped Teeth

Orthodontics DiscountSpaces between your teeth can be hereditary, though they can also be caused by other factors within or beyond your control, such as:

  • A large frenulum – Frenulum refers to the soft gum tissue located between your two incisor teeth on the upper jaw. If the frenulum is too large, it can prevent the two front teeth from forming close together, resulting in a noticeable gap.
  • Tongue thrusting – This is a swallowing reflux that causes your tongue to push against the top incisors when swallowing. Repeating this action over time can also cause a gap to develop between your teeth.
  • Thumb sucking or using a pacifier – Prolonged thumb sucking or dependency on a pacifier can affect tooth spacing and alignment, resulting in spaces between the teeth.
  • Missing teeth – Spaces left behind after tooth extraction or the failure of some permanent teeth to erupt can cause adjacent teeth to shift positions, resulting in gap issues.
